Newborn portrait sessions at home are my absolute favorite way to document a newborn! There is something so personal about being inside the personal space of a family, especially just after they've welcomed a new baby. I love to document not only the family, but the nursery especially. It's always such a special time - balloons outside the home, little hints that a baby is present. I just love this fleeting milestone.
For this particular session, other than new baby sister's great name (Giada) I was particularly fond of Mom's choice in clothing. There is something so timeless about a neutral color palette, especially for an in-home newborn session, and for this family's portraits it certainly worked out so well.! I love the cream lace in Mom's dress, and the white sheer fabric in big sister's white dress. I brought a white lace swaddle for Giada and it blended perfectly with her family's clothing.
The first image I've included here is one of my favorites from this in-home newborn session. Big sister's expression on her face was just adorable. The surprise and trepidation of newly becoming an influence in your family; no longer the youngest. The caution they express in touching their newfound sibling. It's just magic, and this first image says it all!
Mom did an amazing job on decorating Giada's nursery too! I just love the custom mobile that hangs above the crib, and the wall mural that is actually a peel and stick, but looks SO REAL. In person, when you're close up to the mural, it seriously looks like it was handpainted. The mobile and the mural are from two different vendors, but truly do look like they were commissioned together, specifically for Giada's adorable little space.
