I've had the pleasure of photographing this sweet family for years and years now! I've been able to document both of their girls' before they've even entered this beautiful world, and it's such an honor to continue to do so. I love that they never tire of the coast. It's my absolute favorite place to shoot, no matter the time of day, and photographing families on the beach is truly my happy place.
For this session, we were documenting baby Palmer's first year milestone so we met at sunset and was able to witness the pastel hues of the sky and Mother Nature showing off. Clients often ask me what the difference is between a sunrise and sunset session in terms of color, and the best way to describe it is the look you'll get and the finished result. With sunrises, they're typically warm (although not always) and they lend to a brighter, more contrast and warm look. Hints of rusts and bright whites, neutral colors work great at sunrise to let the sun and the warmth it brings shine through. Back light lends for textured fabrics like crochet to stand out, and whites can really be the star. For sunset, you most likely will get a pastel, jewel-toned hue in the sky since we're on the east coast here in St. Augustine, Florida so the beach portraits will have the sun setting in the opposite direction. Think warm pinks and pale blues, and even some hints of purples on a great sunset. In summer the days are longer so you'll have to keep those kiddos up very late to catch the true soft light a sunset graces us with.
For clothing for this beach family photo session, Mom opted for neutral colors (my favorite and top recommendation for clients on any session) with hints of sage green and creams. Compliment, not compete, with your surroundings and you'll never go wrong.
