I loved this session! I had the pleasure of working with this sweet family on their very first portraits in Jacksonville a couple of years ago, and now they're on baby number two so I was honored when they reached out to me again to document their growing family! It makes me so happy to watch a family as they progress through life.
This in-home newborn session for Baby Boy Matteo took place inside their beautiful home in Saint Johns, Florida. I've said this countless times but in my opinion, the absolute best place to document your newborn baby is your home! Especially with young siblings. It makes the transition from groupings so much easier and when Dad and big brother or sister are finished, they can go play and have a snack and just be, instead of waiting around. I'll typically end with a few posed solo baby portraits, and then some with Mom.
One of my favorite things about this session was the apparent love big sis' had for her new baby brother! So adorable. She's just shy of two years older than him and alll of her baby dolls around the house were in preparation of taking care of her real baby, her baby brother. So sweet to watch, and to photograph.
Mom's dress is my favorite! So much that I went out and bought one for myself! You can find it here. I love the simple almost nightgown vibes it lends, very organic and natural and a great relaxing outfit that looks like something Mama would be wearing in her home to care for her children anyway. When dressing for your newborn portrait session in your home, you really want to try to think about looking as natural as possible without being "too" casual, too "sloppy". A pressed t-shirt, or a crisp and clean new one, will do just fine for Dad. He doesn't have to look like he's heading to the office, unless of course that is your preference and then that is just fine! Remember, these are your portraits for your family so in the end, the choice is yours.
I always love to take a few images of the nursery during in home newborn sessions to document this room while it lasts. It's such a fleeting time, and typically that first year flys by then they're toddlers and that bed changes and they're off! So it's always nice to have a little representation of baby's room during this time - even if they've never slept in their bed! Ha
