This fall family photo session is the perfect example why a mini session isn't always ideal. Their youngest wasn't feeling the session upon arrival, and parks being closed due to Hurricane Ian forced a bit of an impromptu drive before we even started. By the time we made it to our destination little lady wasn't in the mood for photos. It took a little convincing, and a love for horses (who knew) to draw her out of her shell. The below are a few of my favorites from what we captured.

Had this happened during a mini session day, we would not have had the opportunity to regroup and get what we needed - a nice rounded set with natural reactions and interaction.

Proof why a mini session isn't always an optimal scenario with littles. Take your time, invest in some solo time with your family and enjoy the experience.

And I want to be sure to point out Mama's stellar choice in clothing and style! For a fall family photo session it's easy to get lost in the fall vibe and go with more "Fall colors", which I adore and has it's place for sure, but there is something about a neutral color palette and light and flowing sheer fabrics in the outdoors that just allows for the images to live longer. Don't you agree? You can never go wrong with layered neutrals and shades of sage green. And I love tulle in the backlight! Mama also opted to get her and the girls' hair and makeup done prior to the session which always makes a huge difference!

A few of my favorites from what could have been a not so great session, that to my surprise turned out to be a great, fun session.
