I say this all the time, but I truly love extended family sessions! They're always a great option when vacationing together as a large group, especially on the beach! Traveling with the whole family seems to be a popular thing to do here in Saint Augustine, Florida so I always welcome the opportunity to get everybody in the frame.
This extended family was from the Woodlands, Texas. They were recommended my services by a longtime client who sadly moved away, to Texas as well. I miss them so much, and hope to document their family again as well on the coast!
This family was so great to work with. Mom was so organized, which really helped create a success extended family session. It's also essential really to keeping the group poses efficient.
Doesn't their clothing look like it was made for this sunrise? It's crazy to me just how well coordinated their outfits were for their sunrise beach portraits. The pinks, the blues - this is a great, classic color palette that won't steer you wrong. I always recommend choosing 2-3 colors as the palette for an extended family photo session, then building from that. Keeping a pattern to perhaps just one person, if that. Two coordinating colors with the shoot location and that's really all you need to make for great family portraits!
The most precious moment from this family's photo session, to me anyway, was one of the mother/daughter images I captured, shown below. Mom beat cancer recently and was so grateful to be here to be able to spend this time with her children. And, the fact that they're both wearing pink was even more perfect.

"The secret to a good morning is to watch the sunrise with an open heart."
I hope that they frame this to preserve this moment. It's so special being able to sit on these rocks with her daughter. after having beat cancer. And the pink dresses are symbolic!
