This session was CRAZY! As you can see off the horizon a huge morning storm was approaching with the dawn. Being a Florida native, and a photographer who has been photographing families on the coast going on 13 years, I thought nah...it'll be fine. Let's just go for it. Well...it didn't work out that way. Ha! This poor family (and myself) got SOAKED. And I mean SOAKED. Like, jump in a cold shower with all of your clothes on, stand under the pier for some small glimmer of hope for shelter soaked. BUT, that being said, these first few images we captured right before the storm was magical! I love the saturation of color at the beach right before a storm. The sun is a powerful thing, especially at sunrise. If there are no clouds before your family's sunrise portrait session, you'll typically have under 20 minutes to make it happen. Some of my best photo sessions have happened like this, right before a storm, or the morning after one.
This family were such great sports for being rained out. All of us huddled under the pier together trying to wait it out. Dad even took off his sweater to wrap it around my gear for me! It.was.crazy. The storm didn't let up, then the lightening started appearing off the horizon so we b-lined it for our cars and made arrangements to reshoot another time.
All in all though, this adventurous Florida photographer loved the experience. My favorite thing about my photo sessions on the beach here in Florida are that no two sessions are really ever the same. Whether it be a sunrise session, or sunset, the terrain is constantly changing and the storms bring new life and perspective to my photo shoots.
A few of my favorites before we literally got quite the rain out.
