Happy 1st to our Baby Jack! I cannot believe our baby boy has turned ONE! It's so crazy to me how fast that first year goes, and to think that we just celebrated his very first birthday is wild to me!
For his milestone session, I wanted to keep it simple. I picked up some gender neutral balloons off of Etsy, and strung them up on a white seamless background and that was it! We had the high chair already on hand (a DIY find from Facebook marketplace that I sanded and painted a nice neutral white), and I had the amazing bakery at our trusty local Publix make a simple $16 semi-naked cake for the smashing. In hindsight I wish I would have done white cake instead of yellow, but in the end he enjoyed it either way!
It's funny too because with a first year milestone cake smash session, you never know what the baby is going to do - smash it, politely and quietly lick a tiny corner of it (like my daughter did) or CRY! Well, Jack cried at first, see below photos haha, but then once I redirected, gave him a moment, and grabbed a spoon he was alllll about it! So funny how they are. That, and for some reason removing his clothes seemed to really help! Ha
Anyway, I wanted to share a simple first birthday cake smash setup and show how you don't have to go all out for it to be meaningful, and fun, for your baby. Incorporate a sibling in the mix, record a few laughs (even on your phone if you have to) and that's it! This short and sweet milestone session will surely be one you and your family will cherish for years to come. My kiddos, even at this young age, enjoy watching the film I created so much they make me play it over and over! It's so sweet watching them interact with each other. Sharing images with your children of themselves truly does build their confidence. Scroll to through the post to view a few of my favorite images from Jack's first year cake smash session, and be sure to check out his film with the sound on!
He clearly wanted NOTHING to do with this cake, that is until I gave him a spoon and took of his clothes. Haha Boys! Gotta love them...
