Baby Luke has arrived! Documenting a newborn baby in a personal space like a home is always my favorite way to capture this new baby milestone. My clients are new to the area, and sadly leaving next year when Dad's residency is up, so it was the perfect location for their newborn photo session. And even though this space is temporary, Mama sure did an amazing job on Baby Luke's neutral nursery! I love the simplicity of the space, and though even during our portrait session that it lent more to a studio look than my usual in-home newborn sessions. When photographing baby on-location in a space like the nursery or the home, I always bring a long a pair of neutral white sheers with me to drape inside of a window. Having sheers on hand will soften the light so you can get those beautiful, timeless organic newborn portraits that keep the focus on the family, and the baby, not on the distractions within a room.
Mama is wearing a dress from the studio closet, one of my favorites! I always suggest a long dress during a newborn portrait session so Mamas can be comfortable and not worry about what they're wearing. This dress is as crazy as it gets, and might as well be Pajamas!
I've included a few of my favorites from this timeless, light and airy at home newborn session in Jacksonville below, My favorite image though hands down is the first one! I love the connection between all of the subjects in the photograph. I always try to have everyone connect in some way when directing a photo. I like to say that I provide direction vs. staging an image. I want the natural look, yet keeping it polished. I think this image does just that and I hope they display it large in their home!
